I've always believed that conducting qualitative research should feel like hosting a dinner party: create an atmosphere of well-being and emotional comfort and our respondents eagerly participate and "help out," following even the most demanding and sensitive lines of inquiry. In both the difficult and the mundane it's very gratifying to overcome consumers' initial reticence and help them find common cause with the needs of our clients.
